Devil’s Child came from realizing that not all battles happen on the outside. Sometimes the hardest fight is with the part of you that still wants to go back to something that hurt you.
In this song, the “devil” isn’t a person - it’s the echo of a toxic love that still sits in the back of your mind. It’s the habit of letting someone in, even when you know they’re not good for you. It’s the voice that whispers lies in the dark, telling you you’re not strong enough to let go.
Writing Devil’s Child felt like admitting something I didn’t want to say out loud: that sometimes the darkness feels familiar.
Sometimes it feels easier to stay sad, to stay stuck, to stay attached to the version of yourself that was hurting.
But as I wrote, I realized I was also fighting back.
Every line is me trying to pull away from that grip, to break that cycle, to stop letting this shadow follow me everywhere I go.
The song is dramatic on purpose - because that’s what it felt like.
A tug-of-war with myself.
A moment of honesty about how messy healing really is.
